The way of things
Science seems to have the answers. They can show, by experimentation that the theories are correct. There is no real proof that intelligent designers can use that proves any part of their theory. What do the Intelligent Design people use for proof of their theories, Faith is the only thing they have shown thus far.
While there may be a spot where the theories break down, and at that point allow for someone or something to have "Designed this on a whim" There is no real provable way of seeing this. It's up to each person's imagination from that point.
We can look back at some great proples imagined reasoning. There are many who have brought us to this point. To name a few: Newton, Einstein, Darwin, et.al..
Could they all be wrong? There always exists that possibility, but many exceptional minds have wrestled with this problem, and no one on either side of the house has been able to show by experimentation that a creator had a hand in getting us to this point.
Yes, the theories break down, such as explaining what happens in a black hole. The theory that you can not destroy information breaks down as we haven't proven what happens to this information in a black hole, i.e. how it is preserved, and used later.
No one has a know all be all theory of everything, but to fear this and create a religion to explain the currently not understood areas of the Universe seems illogical.
Through out history people have done just that. When faced with an unexplained instance in order to be able to face it down they imagine some greater being..
Let's not confuse the issue of science and creationism by putting a course in the public schools that tries to teach faith..
There are faith based schools that do that job, and do it very well leave that to them..
Keep science as science in the classroom...
